Dovonex Ointment has been discontinued. Dovonex Cream and Dovonex Scalp Solution will continue to be available.
Dovonex Ointment is used to treat plaque psoriasis in adults. Dovonex Cream is used to treat plaque psoriasis. Dovonex Scalp Solution is used to treat chronic, moderately severe psoriasis of the scalp. Dovonex (calcipotriene ointment) Ointment, 0.005%, offers once- or twice-daily dosing. To apply Dovonex Ointment, apply a thin layer to the affected skin and rub in gently and completely. Dovonex (calcipotriene cream) Cream, 0.005%, offers twice-daily dosing. To apply Dovonex Cream, apply a thin layer to the affected skin and rub in gently and completely. Dovonex (calcipotriene solution) Scalp Solution, 0.005%, offers twice-daily dosing in a colorless topical solution. To apply Dovonex Scalp Solution, comb the hair to remove scaly debris and, after suitably parting, apply only to the lesions and rub in gently and completely, taking care to prevent the solution from spreading onto the forehead. FOR TOPICAL USE ONLY. Contact with the face and eyes should be avoided. Dovonex should not be used in patients with higher than normal levels of calcium in the blood or evidence of Vitamin D toxicity. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using Dovonex, talk to your doctor before using this medication. Dovonex should not be used in patients with a history of allergy to any of its components or for any disorder other than for which it was prescribed. Dovonex Scalp Solution should not be used in patients with sudden worsening of psoriasis. In clinical trials, the most frequent side effects for the Cream were skin irritation (10% to 15%), rash, itching, skin inflammation, and worsening of psoriasis (1% to 10%); for the Ointment were burning, itching, and skin irritation (10% to 15%), redness, dry skin, peeling, rash, skin inflammation, and worsening of psoriasis (1% to 10%); and for the Scalp Solution were temporary burning, stinging, and tingling (23%), rash (11%), and dry skin, irritation, and worsening of psoriasis (1% to 5%). Dovonex Scalp Solution is flammable. Keep away from open flame.
